VOTORANTIM CIMENTOS

Celebrating 100 years

In 2018, Votorantim will complete 100 years. In Brazil, Votorantim has significantly contributed to the growth of cities and the development of the country.

Votorantim’s trajectory is rooted in the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of its pioneers and founders, and perpetuates through later generations. On 09.01.1918, Votorantim was founded in Brazil by Antonio Pereira Ignacio, a Portugues immigrant. The brand “Sociedade Anonyma Fabrica Votorantim” was born as a textile factory. The company’s pioneers were visionaries when they decided to invest in the basic industry, still in the 1930s, when Brazil was an eminently agricultural country. They had the courage to build an aluminum plant in the 1950s.

In the 1950s, they made the decision to build their own hydroelectric power plants to supply its industrial production, for they realized that public authorities would not be able to carry out an effective response. Yet, they did so with a view to nature preservation, which was quite unheard of for the standards at that time.

From the early years of the 2000s, entering the era of economic globalization, Votorantim has expanded its investments to 23 other countries, keeping with them its values, entrepreneurial strength, respecting and learning from the local cultures.
