(57) The invention relates to a cooler (10) for cooling bulk material, particularly cement klinker, comprising a ventilation bottom (12) for receiving the bulk material, through which a cooling gas can flow, a first ventilation chamber (14) which is arranged above the ventilation bottom (12) and comprises a plurality of lateral walls (18), and a second ventilation chamber (16) which is arranged below the ventilation bottom (12) and comprises a plurality of lateral walls (20, 22, 24). At least one lateral wall (18, 20, 22, 24) of the first and/or second ventilation chamber (14, 16) comprises a material formed from a mixture of a filler and a binder. The invention also relates to a method for producing a cooler (10) for cooling bulk material, particularly cement klinker, comprising a ventilation bottom (12) for receiving the bulk material, through which a cooling gas can flow, a first ventilation chamber (14) which is arranged above the ventilation bottom (12) and comprises a plurality of lateral walls (18), and a second ventilation chamber (16) which is arranged below the ventilation bottom (12) and comprises a plurality of lateral walls (20, 22, 24), at least one of the lateral walls (18, 20, 22, 24) of the first and/or second ventilation chamber (14, 16) being cast from a material comprising a mixture of a filler and a binder.
