Zetium combines multiple X-ray technologies in one system

PANalytical (Almelo/Netherlands) unveiled a revolutionary development in X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy at this year’s Achema fair in Frankfurt (Main)/Germany. Zetium, hosting up to three mutually complementary technol-ogies on a multifunctional XRF platform, is set to spark off radical rethinking by scientists on XRF analysis. The Zetium platform uses SumXcore technology to integrate both wavelength-dispersive (WD) and energy-dispersive (ED) XRF technology, and can also include the Small Spot System for high-speed assignment of element distribution plus the innovative THETA free-lime channel for specific cement industry applications.

This new technology combination not only meets the classical needs of XRF users, it also opens up numerous new possibilities. Simultaneous EDXRF and WDXRF measurements mean that all data is collected in a single operation, potentially halving measuring time compared to two sequential analyses. The capability for performance of traditional XRF and free lime measurements using one and the same system generates significant benefits for industry-specific challenges, as encountered in the cement industry, for example.

It is anyway clearly apparent that the Zetium sets new standards in analytical performance, user-friendliness and sustainability for users in the fields of process optimisation, quality control and research. The Zetium is the successor to the exceptionally successful Axios series, assuring a heritage of tried-and-proven technology to underpin this new analysis platform.

To make choosing easy, PANalytical has developed a range of specific ­Zetium editions. A total of five industrial versions are available: Polymers, Petro, ­Cement, Minerals, Metals and Ultimate Edition. One  of four performance packages can be selected for each of these editions, offering higher speed and throughput, enhanced performance, robustness plus availability, and flexibility.

The hardware advances are harmonised with a further developed software structure and a corresponding user inter-face. SumXcore, the central software and hardware element of the Zetium, integrates diverse technologies, thus combining improved performance capability with maximum flexibility. Ease of use – even for users with little prior knowledge and experience - is the central focus of the intuitive task-orientated user interface and of the high-performance intelligence of the Virtual Analyst™, which guides the user through the application to optimise all settings.
