Ghacem to increase production

Ghacem has announced plans to inject an amount of 26 million US$ into its core operations for meet the growing demand of cement in the country. Part of the amount, according to the company’s officials, would be used to expand the company’s plant facility at Tema, to increase its production capacity from 1.2 million t to 2.2 million t/a. Therefore the West African cement manufacturer Ghacem ordered from the Christian Pfeiffer Maschinenfabrik GmbH a complete grinding installation via its parent company Scancem, Norway in the month of May (Fig.). The annual production rate of 1.2 million t of cement of the company’s second plant facility at Takoradi is expected to be maintained. The successful completion of the expansion drive will see the HeidelbergCement Group, majority shareholders of Scancem, increase its annual production capacity to 3.4 million t. Ghana, currently, has an untapped cement market potential of 3 million t per annum and competitors are embarking on all manner of strategies in order to get chunk of the market. “We are anticipating growth in the cement market. Our expansion will make the company solid on the ground to meet the growing demand for cement in the country,” Dr. Dawson-Amoah, Corporate Director of Ghacem told in an interview. The expansion works are scheduled to be completed in fifteen months time in the third quarter of 2012.
