Integrated management system

On 23.05.2012 Christian Knell, General Manager Germany, received the certificate for the integrated management system of HeidelbergCement from Roland Glauser (Fig. left), Managing Director of the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems SQS. This certificate confirms that HeidelbergCement fulfil the criteria of the quality and environmental management system (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001) and of the recently introduced energy management system according to ISO 50001. The certificate is for the German business lines cement, lime and gypsum, for the HeidelbergCement Baustoffe für Geotechnik GmbH & Co. KG and for the business line sand and gravel.

The basis of any management system is the definition of company policy, from which goals are derived for all levels, beginning at the top management down to the individual departments. It is to ensure that everyone knows the goals of the company and work together in reaching them. The prerequisites for a successful certification are systematic and well documented processes that are transparent, understandable and measurable. The goals are tested and certified in an audit by neutral and independent firms, such as SQS.

The auditing of management systems depends on many guidelines and standardized methods, which are used to measure whether the quality, environmental and energy goals have been reached. However, the auditing should also show the company where its management system or its organization still has to be optimized.
