Raw material securing

According to data of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (www.bgr.bund.de) each of us will consume about 1000 t of raw materials in the course of his lifetime. About two thirds of this amount relates to mineral raw materials, i.e. metals, industrial minerals, rock and associated products, including 70 t of limestone, 27 t of cement and 7 t of gypsum. Even if these values certainly vary significantly worldwide, responsible handling of resources is as important as production geared towards sustainability and resource efficiency, not least also for economic reasons. In this issue you will be informed about how raw material extraction can be made more efficient and can be better planned or how production can be optimized by means of advanced analysis methods and model calculations. Special attention is paid to gypsum as a raw material for cement production and as an independent building material. Amongst other things, you will find a report dealing with this year’s Eurogypsum Congress in Krakow under the target setting motto: “Gypsum is at the core of a sustainable and resource-efficient built environment”.
