Lt Gen Sardar Mahmood Ali Khan (Retd), Managing Director of Fauji Cement Company Limited, signed a contract agreement with Sinoma Energy Conservation Company of China, at FCCU’s head office, Rawalpindi on 13.12.2016. As per the contract agreement, Sinoma Energy Conservation Company will supply and set up a power generation plant which will produce 7.6 MW of electricity by capping waste heat gases of cement plant (referred to as Line 1) and Wartsila captive power plant. The project commenced 01.01.2017 and will be commissioned and installed in 14 months.
This will be the second waste heat recovery power plant after the first one with a capacity of 12 MW was commissioned on Line 2 on 23.03.2015. On completion of the project, Fauji Cement together with already installed power generation plants, will have the capacity to indigenously produce almost 80 % of its total electricity requirements. Generation of electricity through recovery of waste heat gases besides being the cheapest source will also ensure an uninterrupted supply of power to the plants and reduce the company’s dependence on the national grid. Moreover, these waste heat recovery plants will reduce emission of tons of greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere.
