A concrete composition comprising Portland cement, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS), and an aqueous suspension of silica particles

(22) 23.11.2022

(43) 29.05.2024

(57) A concrete composition comprising Portland cement (1-15 wt%), ground granulated blast furnace slag powder (GGBFS, GGBS, 1-25 wt%), an aqueous suspension of silica particles (microsilica slurry, 0.1-5 wt%), reinforcing fibres (less than 1 wt%), aggregate materials, and water. The reinforcing fibres may comprise one or more of glass, polypropylene, nylon, cellulose, basalt, and steel, and may be alkali resistant fibres. The composition may comprise a superplasticiser, which may be a carboxylated polymer such as polycarboxylate ether. The composition may comprise 5-8 wt% water, and the aggregate material may comprise a first group of particulate material with an average particle size of 4-10 mm in the range of 10-35 wt/o. A method of forming a concrete article using the concrete composition is specified, wherein the components except from water are mixed to form a concrete mixture, the water is added, and the concrete mixture is moulded and cured. The water is added at a temperature of at least 40°C. A binder for a concrete composition is also defined, the binder comprising Portland cement (10-20 wt%), ground granulated blast furnace slag powder (50-80 wt%), and an aqueous suspension of silica particles (5-10 wt%).
