Utilization of siliceous filter residues in ­mineral building materials

Against the background of sustainable resource management the “NanoKiesel” joint research project has shown ways of utilizing siliceous filter residues from the chemical industry in various mineral building materials.

1 Introduction

Germany is one of the leading producers of micron-ized and colloidal silica. Another important branch is the production of silicone oils, silicone resins and elastomers based on silanes and chlorosilanes as inter­mediate synthesis products. 8000-10 000 tonnes of siliceous filter residues (FR) are generated by each producer every year during the neutralization of the resulting waste water.
