FLSmidth MAAG Gear takes over Darimec

In late July of 2011, FLSmidth MAAG Gear AG acquired 100% of Italian company Darimec, expanding the MAAGTM range of products for the mineral resources and cement industries. Darimec is a highly specialised gear-systems company, developing and producing girth gears, pinions and custom-made compact gearing systems; FLSmidth MAAG Gear has up to now produced heavy-duty gearboxes and individual gearing components. As a member of the FLSmidth group, FLSmidth MAAG Gear benefits from the former‘s strong position within the cement and mineral resources industries, and will be able, with the acquisition of Darimec, to expand its activities on these markets, aiming to establish itself in the minerals industry as a single-source capability centre for gearing, drive and propulsion systems - a status the company already enjoys in the cement industry.

Additional focus on spare parts and service
The acquisition of Darimec expands the FLSmidth MAAG Gear‘s range of spare parts and its production capacity. The Italian subsidiary is also set to commission a new 1200 m2 production shop in October 2011. On the services side, the range covered is to be extended to include all mill drive systems. FLSmidth MAAG Gear specialists can perform the entire range of services necessary, from installation, via inspection, up to and including overhaul, on all mill drives. The company‘s own service crew possesses the necessary extra capacities and knowledge, and is to be expanded to thirty-five employees. Darimec is a market leader, with more than 1100 girth gears delivered to customers around the globe. The DarimecTM range of products comprises kiln girth gears of up to 10 metres in diameter, mill girth gears of up to 11.2 metres diameter, pinions of all types, compact gearboxes handling up to 10000 kilowatt, drive and actuation systems for rotary kilns, and also the overhaul, modernisation and re-engineering of existing gearing systems and gearboxes. Darimec was founded in 1961 by Italian businessman Mario Dagnoni as “Dagnoni Riduttori Meccanici”, from which the present “Darimec” name derives. The company is to be renamed FLSmidth MAAG Gear S.p.A. from January 1, 2012. Darimec has production facilities in Milan/Italy, and thirty-four highly qualified employees.
