Drive systems increase productivity and availability of a roller press

In the course of increasing output efficiency, the Austrian producer of construction materials Wopfinger Baustoffindustrie GmbH has upgraded the electromechanical drive technology of their existing roller presses to hydraulic direct drives from Rexroth. The aim was to efficiently increase the availability of the equipment.

Higher efficiency, lower energy consumption and keeping things as simple as possible – these are decisive trends when speaking of grinding processes in the cement industry. In cement plants, various types of grinders are used for applications from raw powder generation to extra fine crushing of burned clinker. Besides vertical ball grinders, roller presses are among the all-rounders offering a wide range of applications.

Redundancy is not equal to availability

Redundancy is nowadays the keyword when it comes to drive systems for large vertical roller mills. Different gear manufacturers have developed new drive systems. This development is clearly driven by the high power demand of large and very large vertical mills and by the torque limitation of the bevel stage in conventional gearboxes as described in ...
