Special exhibition on the “Fascination of Lime” at Lahn Marble Museum in Villmar
From 09.03.-23.06.2019, the travelling exhibition “Fascination of Lime” will be on display at the Lahn Marble Museum in Villmar/Germany. In this exhibition, the raw material “lime” will be presented with all its facets as part of a multi-sensory experience. To accompany the exhibition, workshops and excursions will be arranged. A diverse range of activities will be organized especially for schools.
To inform the wider public about the different applications of lime, to interest young people in the material lime and ultimately to create an understanding of the significance of raw materials, the German Lime Industry Association (BVK) has developed an interactive lime exhibition. It has been designed as a travelling exhibition. In the design of the exhibition, the BVK was supported by four museums of different size and with different focuses.
At the opening of the exhibition, small experiments will be demonstrated behind a portable glass screen: a field test by the geologist, a lime-slaking test and a lime-neutralization test.
For the workshop, various interactive tests have been selected and developed in cooperation with the Clausthal University of Technology to spark excitement.
Cooperation partner is Schaefer Kalk, a lime producer from the region. Laboratory employees from the company are training museum staff to conduct the workshops. For those interested, a tour of the company’s lime plant is also offered.
