Thermal imaging with iPhone 5/5s or new pyrometer TG 165

FLIR Systems, Inc. from Wilsonville, OR/USA with subsidiary in Meer/Belgium have announced that the FLIR ONE™ thermal imaging accessory for smartphones will be available now for order online across 27 European countries at FLIR.com and in 18 European countries through Apple.com. The device transforms an iPhone 5 or 5s into a powerful thermal imager displaying live infrared imagery that allows the user to see the world from a thermal perspective. Thus, the smartphone detects invisible heat energy, giving consumers the ability to “see” and measure minute variances in temperature. It also enables a host of practical solutions for consumers – from detecting energy leaks at home to seeing in complete darkness. In addition, it brings powerful energy saving and situational awareness capabilities.

FLIR ONE detects a wide range of temperatures and has a spot temperature measurement display. Users can capture either photos or videos and share them via text, email, or social media through the FLIR ONE app, which is available in the Apple App Store. In addition, a variety of artistic and functional FLIR ONE supporting apps are available in the Apple App Store that allow users to take close-up photos, time-lapse video, panoramic photos, and hybrid thermal plus visible-light images.

Areas of application may also be home improvement (identify heat loss, energy inefficiency, water leaks), outdoor adventures (observe wildlife day/night, survey a campsite) or security/safety (night vision, detect intruders, see through light fog and smoke).

FLIR ONE is available at both FLIR.com and Apple.com/euro/store for customers in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. It is also available in U.S. and Canada through Apple retail stores and Apple.com and in the U.S. on FLIR.com/FLIRONE for 349.99 US$. During the fourth quarter of 2014, FLIR ONE will also be available throughout Asia in Apple retail stores, Apple.com, and FLIR.com.

In late September, FLIR Systems announced the release of its TG165 Imaging IR Thermometer. Built around a Lepton® micro thermal imaging camera core, the TG165 eliminates the blind guesswork of troubleshooting by combining a single spot IR thermometer with the power of a thermal camera in a rugged, compact package anyone can use, as it doesn’t requires any training. Its dual lasers visually mark the edges of what is being measured and the cross hairs pinpoint the center point of the measurement area. The TG165 is designed to withstand a two-meter drop, making it rugged enough for industrial professionals while offering the simplicity valued by do-it-yourself homeowners.

The TG165 is priced at 499 US$ and is available at popular industrial test equipment retailers in markets around the world since early October.
