Votorantim Cimentos project is recognized as the most innovative in South America

Votorantim Cimentos received the Clemente Greco Award, for the Best Innovation, Environmental or Cement Sustainability Project. The winning project “Use of nontraditional slag as addition to Votorantim Cimentos cements” has an innovative impact both in the allocation of liabilities of large mining companies – the acid slag – as on the environment, since the cement is produced with less CO2 emissions.

Successfully deployed in Votorantim Cimentos’ plants, the use of slag as an additive already caused a 10 % drop in the use of clinker from Votorantim Cement factories in the southeast region, which results from the calcination of a mixture of limestone, clay and chemical components such as silicon, aluminum and iron, between 2013 and 2015.

The ceremony was held on February 24th, during the Congress CBI Brazil & LatAm 2016. The company was also awarded in 2015, in the same category due to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 50 % with the use of pozzolan calcined clay to replace clinker in cement production at its plant located in Porto Velho.
