azb takes over sponsorship of the Tachynectes

The erection of the new GEO-Museum in Münster/Germany is in progress. In close proximity to the Münster Cathedral, the Westphalian Wilhelms University will bring young and old together to the exciting display of knowledge of earth sciences at the Museum Mile. The Association of Employers Cement and Building Materials e. V. (azb), headquartered in Beckum/Germany, are sponsors of this unique exhibition displayed in the Landsberg’schen Curia building.

The Association represents the social and collective bargaining interests of the sector with its nearly 7000 employees in North, West and East Germany. On the occasion of the azb-member assembly held 2014 in Münster, Prof. Dr. Harald Strauß of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology spoke on the topic of “From the Big Bang to Westphalia”.

As thanks in recognition for that very exciting look into the history of the Earth, azb presented a 5000 € donation for exhibit sponsorship for the fossil of a 75-million-year-old fish, Tachynectes (“fast swimmer”). This fish was found in one of the limestone banks in the region of Beckum, which basically is the origin of the local cement industry. “It is the ideal link”, azb CEO Jochen Klein mentioned, “between the past and the modern building material of cement with its importance for the industrial location of Westphalia”.

The new GEO-Museum at Münster will be inaugurated at the end of 2015. Then the extensive collection of earth sciences will present, and make more tangible, the geological evolution according to the latest standards.
