Trends in the development of the gypsum board market in Ukraine

The gypsum boards (GB) market in Ukraine is served by two local producers and several importers. For several years now, on account of macroeconomic factors, no growth has been registered on this market. The structural change of various competing construction materials in the different submarkets shows, however, a relatively stable position for gypsum boards.

Gypsum boards (GB) are used for dry construction and for cladding walls and ceilings, for erecting partition walls or as refractory cladding of building structures. The market for GB in Ukraine amounted to almost 45 million m² in 2015 (Figure 1).

Between 2003 and 2008, the GB market grew from 27.0 million m2 to 91.5 million m2 [1]. That means that the sales figures more than tripled in five years. In 2009, the sales figures then fell by almost a third. From 2010 to 2011, growth could be registered again, the 2007 level was almost reached.
