What foot protection needs to offer in the building materials industry

Producing cement, lime and plaster is often a rough process. As a consequence, employees in the building materials industry are exposed to an elevated risk of injury. After all, extracting raw materials at the quarry is highly demanding on the workforce, as is the subsequent processing – from crushing and grinding the materials to transportation and packaging.

Hazards in the construction material industry are wide-ranging: accidents involving slipping or falling are particularly common on uneven quarry ground or on-site where rain can make flat surfaces slippery. Models such as the “Alessio” S3 foot protector have an outsole technology under the name “Safety Grip”. Safety shoes like the “Alessio” are also particularly suitable for construction work thanks to their robust leather design with toe caps. For additional protection in view of different hazards in the construction materials industry, there is the “Alessio” – low cut shoe or boot – with steel or non-metallic protection against perforation. The steel version is not just available with PU/PU soles, but also with rubber/PU soles; for instance the “Alessio Steel Rubber XW Mid” uses precisely this combination.

Anyone who works outside in all weathers, constantly coming into contact with materials such as rubble, gravel, cement, plaster, limestone or concrete, will really put their footwear through its paces. Ideal models here are those designed with water-repellent, tear-resistant upper fabrics such as Cordura, which makes the shoes waterproof and durable. A Gore-Tex membrane will offer additional protection against wind and water. It also ensures excellent breathability as water vapour can escape through the membrane without any moisture penetrating from outside. This keeps your feet dry while maintaining an even temperature inside the shoe. Elten has combined all these features in its “Matthew Pro GTX” model.
